
Matchday 5 of the CAF Champions League took centerstage over the weekend with Tanzania giants Simba dominating the headlines.
In a group A clash that took place in the Benjamin Mkapa national Stadium Simba SC thrashed DR Congo side AS Vita 4-1 to book the quarter final ticket. Wekundu wa Msimbazi now top the charts with 13 points ahead of Al Ahly who have 8 points.
In group B group leaders Mamelodi Sundowns failed to break the deadlock against Al Hilal earning a 0-0 draw in Sudan. CR Belouizdad edged out Tp Mazembe in a 2-0 victory which led CR Belouzidad to rise to second on the log, 2 points ahead of Al Hilal. Tp Mazembe remained bottom of the table.
South African giants side Kaizer Chiefs managed a 1 -0 victory against the group leaders Wydad AC to almost assure themselves of a quarter final berth.in another Group C match Horoya AC beat bottom side Petro de Luanda 1-0. Despite the loss Wydad AC still lead the table with 10 points while Horoya AC and Kaizer Chiefs trailing closely with 8 points as Petro de Luanda lock bottom place with 1 point.
The Group D of the competition comprised of mixed results as bottom table Teungueth FC thrashed ES Tunis 2-1.Egyptians Zamalek SC won 2-0 in the other match of Group D fixture against 2nd placed MC Alger.
The CAF champions league resumes Friday 9th April and Saturday 10th April.
