The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched investigations against Gor Mahia FC duo of Kenneth Muguna and goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch following a fracas that occurred after their CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round exit to Napsa Stars of Zambia.

In a letter addressed to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the CAF Disciplinary committee stated that  the Gor Mahia captain Muguna  and Keeper Oluoch attacked and used abusive language against the match officials who officiated the match.

Having lost 1-0 at home, K’Ogalo travelled to Lusaka on February 21, 2021 seeking to overturn the result and started on a high, scoring two first half goals. The hosts came twice from behind to salvage a draw and it was the second goal that made Gor Mahia players furious.

The 19-time Kenyan champions were seconds away from victory but Charles Momanyi was penalised for tripping a Napsa player in the box. Veteran forward Emmanuel Mayuka stepped up to score from the spot and that is where Gor Mahia players started protesting, chasing down the match referee to the dressing room.

According to CAF, Gor Mahia have five days to reply after which the matter will be submitted to the CAF Disciplinary Committee.

CAF statement:

“CAF has decided to implement the provisions of the Disciplinary Code in terms of article 11, and to open an investigation allowing your affiliated players to respond to the reported incident,” the Chairman CAF Disciplinary Board Raymond Hack wrote to FKF.

“Therefore, the Club is required to provide us with comments within 5 days, namely on the 5th of March 2021 by latest, after which the matter shall be submitted to the CAF Disciplinary Board,” he stressed.
