In a hotly contested match, National Super League side, Murang'a Seal lost to Gor Mahia FC by only 1 goal at the Saint Sebastian Park in Murang'a County on Sunday the 3rd of October.

Striker Sando Yangayay from The Democratic Republic of Congo drew first blood in the second half of the friendly match to give Gor Mahia the lead. “Such matches against prominent opposition are also good for our boys as we also aim to play in the top league someday.” Said Murang'a Seals Chairman Robert Macharia.

The last friendly between the two teams, held in November 2020, ended 2-1 in favour of K’Ogalo. Gor Chairman Ambrose Rachier lauded the club for its approach of setting up a fully-fledged academy which he noted was key in nurturing talent as well as preventing the youth from drug abuse and idleness. Seal finished 12th in Kenya’s second-tier league with 45 points last season and are raring to earn promotion to the KPL next season. Murang’a Sports Excellence Academy Limited – MSeal – is an upcoming football and sports academy based in Murang’a and the only football club in Kenya with its own private pitch, the St.Sebastien Park.

Teamkenya.co.ke also had a chance to Interview Gor Mahia assistant Coach, Sammy Omollo 'Pamzo' with regards to the team's preparation towards the CAF Confederation Cup."I think so far, we've had a very good preparation towards CAF Federation and good preparation is the way we started the league, very important because we had a massive result winning against KCB a team which was very good last season finishing second so winning against such a strong team and why the result gave us so much hope is due to us starting off a little bit late even as the bankers were in top form having not taken a break." He said.

"We've been having friendlies to gauge us up and so far the two friendlies we've played we won despite them being really tough especially against Mathare. If we keep on winning the friendlies, this will bring the winning mentality and of course build the squad's confidence. So far so Good, Murang'a Seals is also not an easy team and the result could show. So far, the players that we have signed, more so the Keeper, Adama, is bringing something different to the team; his height, how he is commanding has really brought good competition between him and Gad Mathews also in the defensive area with Ng'ang'a. In terms of our defensive organization, we have secured it, now we can only work hard not to concede goals," added Pamzo.

Gor Mahia will be facing Al Ahly Merowe in the first leg of the second preliminary round on 15th October.
