Kenya representatives in the inaugural CAF Womens Champions League  Vihiga Queens FC are confident of putting up a good performance as they take on South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the opening Group B in Cairo.

The tournament kick-off on Friday with Wadi Degla of Egypt beating AS Mande of Mali  3-1 in the opener and Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies FC also beating Malabo Kings Equatorial Guinea by the same scoreline.

Vihiga Queens coach Charles Okerebelieves that the team has prepared well for the tournament.

“Owing to the preparations and practice that we’ve done, we do believe that this is our trophy to take home,”

Team captain Enez Mdeizi Mango also made it clear that the team is ready and motivated for their opening match. Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu will definitely be the player to watch after her exploits in the Cecafa qualifiers where she emerged as the tournament’s best player.

Vihiga Queens will be wary of the threat posed by some of Sundown players like the golden boot winner at the Cosafa Zonal Melinda Kgadiete and Nonhlanhla Mthandi..

Sundowns Ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala said that they will be all out to try and get a positive result in the first match. I’ve managed to see some of the games of Vihiga Queens that they’ve played during their qualifiers,” added the coach.
