Kenya 7s finished eighth in the Dubai 7s after losing 29-7 to Ireland in the seventh-place playoffs staged at the Sevens Stadium on Saturday, November 27.
Shujaa ends the tournament with one win out of the six matches played on Saturday and Sunday. The win came against Spain in the pool stage.
Kenyan players looked exhausted and the Irish scored two minutes into the game, Terry Kennedy rose off from a ruck and stretched over to touch down for a try that was converted for a 7-0 lead.
Good support play saw the side stretch the lead through Aaron O’Sullivan after an offload. Another offload by Mark Roche saw Kennedy score for his side to lead 19-0 at the break.
In the final half, Kennedy got his third try to stretch the lead to 24-0. Shujaa pulled back through Herman Humwa’s centre post try. At the other end, Ed Kelly scored at the right corner to seal the victory for Ireland.
Shujaa shift focus on next weekend Dubai 7s second leg.
