Apparently, this is the first game this season in Kenyan rugby to be called off due to Covid-19 reasons.
The Kenya Cup clash pitting Mwamba RFC and reigning champions KCB that was supposed to take place on Saturday December 18th at the Impala Grounds will not go on as planned.
This is because the game was called off in the hours leading to kick off after positive cases of Covid-19 were reported within the Mwamba camp.
In a statement released by the host team, Kulabu announced the official postponement of the match following the latest developments with the league management confirming the same.
“POSTPONED! Our Kenya Cup match against KCB rugby has been postponed due to a number of confirmed positive Covid cases in the team. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and we urge every one of you to be careful and observe all safety and health protocols,” the statement from the team read.
Since the 2021/2022 season started, this is the first instance where a game has been postponed due to Covid-19 reasons in the league.
Despite the game being called off, the other five games are expected to go on as planned as things stand.
Kabras Sugar, who are top of the log currently after winning all their first three matches and accruing bonus points, will be in town to take on a winless and pointless Resolution Impala Saracens at the Impala Club at 3 PM.
At the RFUEA Grounds, Kenya Harlequin who are among the leading teams in the standings will entertain Homeboyz at their home venue. Quins will be keen to keep up with the bright start they have enjoyed under Senegalese head coach Amady Diallo who took charge before the season started.
Nondies, also winless in the opening three matches, will take on Strathmore Leos who are currently enjoying a three-match winning run in a match slated for the Ngong Racecourse at 3 PM.
