
As Shujaa prepares for the third and fourth legs of the World 7s series scheduled for Malaga and Seville in Spain, Kenya 7s Head Coach Innocent Simiyu has revealed his squad.
Derrick Ashihundu has been named in the Shujaa 13 man squad for the World 7s Series in Malaga as he expects to debut for the serires.
Also included in the 13-man squad is Vincent Onyala who makes a return after missing the 2021 action due to commitments with Kenya Simbas.
Dubai 7s Series debutants Kelvin Wekesa and Tony Omondi have also been retained. Nelson Oyoo will retain his role as Captain with Jeff Oluoch, Alvin Otieno, Daniel Taabu, Herman Humwa, Billy Odhiambo also maintaining their slots.
Malaga 7s and Seville 7s tournaments have been scheduled to take place between January 21-23 and January 28-30, respectively.
Shujaa have been in camp since January 3, after their short break for the December festivities. In the Malaga tournament, Shujaa has been pooled alongside France, Canada and Wales in Pool D.
The 16 men’s core teams for the upcoming events will be Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, USA and Wales.
The 11 core women’s teams after the Dubai events are Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia, Spain and USA.
Two men’s and one women’s team will be relegated from the 2022 Series, to ensure a pathway for teams to be promoted from the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series.
Shujaa are expected to improve from their poor run in Dubai having only won three out of the 12 matches played for the two opening tournaments.
