Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has explained circumstances that led to his unceremonial departure from the club.

In his first interview since the news of his departure went public, the forward pointed an accusing finger at his former manager, Mikel Arteta, for his woes at Arsenal.

Aubameyang fell out of favour with Arteta and was quickly stripped off the club's captaincy role.

“My last few months at Arsenal were complicated, that’s football sometimes. On my part, I never wanted to do anything wrong. My problem was only with Arteta. I cannot say much more.

“It was just him and he made that decision. He was not happy, I cannot tell you more. He was not very happy, I was very calm,” Aubameyang told the press.

Former Arsenal striker, Emmanuel Adebayo, last month voiced his opinion on the issue, accusing Arsenal of acting in bad faith.

Adebayo defended Aubameyang noting that the club was at fault when it stripped him of the captaincy.

Since being stripped off the prestigious club role, Aubameyang did not make any match appearance for the club for over two months.

Adebayo, in a previous interview, noted that he did not see any future for Aubameyang at Arsenal, noting that it would be hard for him to stay at the club.

“In Arsenal, I do not think so, this is what I know because it also happened to me, not the same way but the Arsenal way.

“I would be surprised if they change but as I have said, Aubameyang is a great player so let's see how it ends,” Adebayo previously noted.

Aubameyang left Arsenal on a free transfer to Barcelona before the closure of the transfer window on January 31.
