The financial situation at Gor Mahia is getting worse by day and latest developments show that the club is headed in a crisis. Three players Jules Ulimwengu, Tito Okelo and Wislon Fonseca Silva have already thrown in the towel, things are not just working for the 19-time Kenyan champions.

Burundi international Jules Ulimwengu and South Sudanese Tito Okelo have not returned to the club since the last international break. South Sudan international Okelo has since moved out of the club house he was staying with all his belongings while Silva, an import from Brazil, is headed back to the Samba nation this weekend.

“Silva will be going back to Brazil this weekend because the situation at the club is unbearable. It would be very difficult to raise a decent team now if sports resumed. Players have families but the officials have different priorities so everyone is looking for a way out,” a source was quoted by Mozzart Sports.

Silva’s situation is more sorry; he was promised a signing fee of KSh1.5 million but has only got Ksh 20,000. With the players demanding three months salary arrears, the situation is getting worse by day. Ex-Gor striker Michael Olunga’s move to Qatar side Al Duhail was seen as a blessing to the club but they haven’t received a cent from the move. The Ksh3.6 million sent into their account after Olunga’s move didn’t touch base with the club as it was shared amongst two top club officials who had advanced the club soft loans.

On Monday, the club’s treasurer Dolphina Odhiambo admitted that the club owes her and chairman Ambrose Rachier over Ksh 100 million and the club was broke.

With no solution to the current problems, players still at the club have vowed to boycott the virtual training sessions organised by the demoralized technical bench.
