AFC Leopards Given Six Days to Pay Former Coach

Andre Cassa Mbungo

On 14th December 2019, Andre Cassa Mbungo resigned as AFC Leopards after the club failed to pay him for five months.

In his farewell message, Mbungo,51, said that he left a huge debt behind and hoped that the club would agree on how to pay it, well, this hasn't happened.

AFC Leopards were on Wednesday instructed by world football governing body (FIFA) to pay Rwandan gaffer Andre Cassa Mbungo Kshs 6 million for breach of contract.

Mbungo who currently coaches Bandari FC left Leopards in 2019 after not being paid salaries for five months and all efforts to get his money has proved futile.

The Rwandan tactician dragged Leopards to Fifa to seek redress and the 12-time Kenyan champions have been ordered to pay Mbungo within a stipulated time frame of which failure to do so will see them being demoted.

"I had highlighted my plight with the management for quite some time but they seem not to be keen to pay me. I have been patient enough but it's time to quit the club,” the Rwandan tactician told a local daily after tendering his resignation.

Ingwe are already serving a two window ban for failing to pay ex-midfielder Vincent Habamahoro Ksh1.8 million owed to the player.

The 13-time Kenyan champions had been given 45-day deadline to pay Habamahoro  by the Dispute Chambers Resolution but now Cassa Mbungo's case is more complicated as they have six days to settle the outstanding debt.

In 2020, club chairman Dan Shikanda admitted that the club owed past coaches and players money and they were looking at ways of settling the debts.

Dwindling gate collections over the years compounded by the current coronavirus pandemic have made life tough in the Den. They are however riding high in the FKF Premier League as they sit 3rd on the log with 29 points.
