Shujaa began its Rugby World Cup 7s campaign on the front foot after defeating Tonga 19-0 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Shujaa played Tonga on Friday, September 9, and their win secured a spot in the round of 16, where Kenya will play Argentina.

Tries from Sammy Oliech and Willy Ambaka in the first half gave Shujaa a 14-0 lead before Vincent Onyala's late try in the second half took the scoreline to 19-0.

Shujaa will play Argentina in their round of 16 matches against Argentina on Friday Evening, September 9 as they hope to advance to the quarter-finals.

After the match, Willy Ambaka expressed the joy of representing the nation after being out due to an injury.

“I’m coming back from injury and I’m just happy to represent the country in the World Cup.

“We executed well, got the three tries. We were also a little bit rusty. That is expected in the first game and we just hope to polish up in the next game,” Ambaka noted.

He added that the match between Shujaa and Argentina will be won based on who follows their tactics well enough.

“We just need to polish up and execute better because once you get to the big games it’s all about who’s going to execute well and who’s going to work well on and off the ball, both defence and attack.

“But we just have to take it one game at a time and execute the little things right because they’re the things that make a big difference,” Ambaka added.
