The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Wednesday, October 4, promoted road race runner Joyciline Jepkosgei from corporal to sergeant rank after her impressive performance at the just concluded 2022 TSC London Marathon.
According to a statement released by KDF, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi, feted the former 10km road race world record holder for putting the Kenyan flag on the global map.
“Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi, on Tuesday 4th October 2022, promoted Corporal Joyciline Jepkosgei to Sergeant (Sgt) at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi following her silver medal win at the 2022 London Marathon.

“In his remarks, before the investiture of ranks, the CDF congratulated Sgt Jepkosgei for her good work in representing the Country in major races and for improving on her timings which have seen her break multiple world records,” read a statement from KDF.
Jepkosgei registered a second-place finish behind Ethiopia’s fast-rising starlet Yalemzerf Yehualaw who broke away in the final stages of the race to reach the tape in 2:17.26.
The Iten-based athlete clocked 2:18.07 to finish ahead of Ethiopia’s Alemu Mergetu who timed 2:18.32.
Jepkosgei made her breakthrough on September 9, 2017 when she destroyed the field to break the 10km world record at the Prague Grand Prix staged in the Czech Republic.
The 28-year-old ran a tactical race to cross the finishing line in 29.43 ahead of compatriots Fancy Chemutai and Violah Jepchumbah.
General Kibochi wished Jepkosgei all the best in her future endeavors and thanked her for the well done job.
“We are very grateful for your continuous hard work and for representing Kenya and KDF well. We wish you the best as competing at such high levels requires a lot of hard work and determination.
"I am confident that you will continue doing better since you are still young,” said General Kibochi," he ended.
