
Kenya’s Bornes Jepkirui Kitur ran a fantastic race to bag the 2022 EDP Lisbon Marathon title, a World Athletics elite label road race on Sunday, October 9.
Jepkirui reached the tape in 02:24.17 ahead of the Ethiopian duo of Sorome Amente and Buzunesh Gudeta.
Amente and Gudeta clocked 02:25.57 and 02:26.01 to finish second and third respectively in a highly contested road race.

Jane Jelagat who finished 7th was the only other Kenyan in the top 10 positions - Jelagat crossed the finishing line in 02:30.34.
In the men’s category, Ethiopian athletes proved to be too strong for their Kenyan counterparts, registering a clean podium sweep.
Andualem Belay crossed the finishing line in 02:05.45 to win the race ahead of compatriots Haftu Asefa and Birhan Tesfaye who clocked 02:06.33 and 02:07.04 respectively.
Kenya’s Julius Kipkorir Tuwei came a distant fourth in 02:08.23 with Paul Eyanae and Nicholas Kirwa settling for the 8th and 9th position respectively.
Elsewhere, Philimon Kipchumba Kiptoo destroyed the field to win the 2022 Munich Marathon.
Kiptoo won the race in 2:07.28 ahead of Ethiopia’s Mengistu Zelalem and Eritrea’s Berhane Tesfay.
In the women’s category, Agnes Keino clocked 2:23.26 to win the title. The Kenyan queen was closely followed by Mare Dibaba and Souad Kanbouchia from Ethiopia and Morocco respectively.
