Eliud Kipchoge is among the 10 elite runners who were nominated for the male World Athlete of the year award on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

Some of the other runners who are in contention for the award include Morocco's 3,000m Steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali, Swedish pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis and Anderson Peters, a world Javelin champion from Granada.

Kipchoge last won the award in 2019, defeating the likes of compatriot Timothy Cheruiyot, Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei and Norway’s Karsten Warholm.

Individuals who wish to vote for Kipchoge can do so by visiting the World Athletics social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube) and click, retweet or like his graphics.

A like or a retweet counts as a single vote, so the more likes or retweets that Kipchoge gets will help him win the award.

According to World Athletics, the likes and retweets that each athlete will receive on social media platforms will account for 25% of the final results.

"The World Athletics Council’s vote will count for 50% of the result, while the World Athletics Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25% of the final result.

"Voting for the World Athletes of the Year closes at midnight on Monday 31 October. At the conclusion of the voting process, five women and five men finalists will be announced by World Athletics," read part of the press release from the organizers.

Kipchoge was nominated due to his excellent performances at marathon events in 2022. He won both the Tokyo and Berlin Marathons.

The 37-year-old clinched the Tokyo Marathon title in 2:02.40 ahead of compatriot and training partner Amos Kipruto.

In Berlin, he lowered his own marathon world record from 2:01.39 to 2:01.09 on September 25, narrowly missing the sub 2:00.00 mark.

The winner of the award will be announced in a ceremony to be held on December 4.
