Kenya's Titus Kipruto Dazzles at 2022 Amsterdam Marathon

Kenya's Titus Kipruto registered a second-place finish at the 2022 TSC Amsterdam Marathon staged on Sunday, October 16.

The 25-year-old clocked a personal best time of 2:04.54 to finish behind Ethiopia's Tsegaye Getachew who reached the tape in 2:04.49.

Getachew's compatriot Bazezew Asmare timed 2:04.57 to settle for a third-place finish ahead of Kenya's Abraham Kiptoo.

Other Kenyan athletes Cybrian Kotut, Norbert Kigen, Laban Korir and Josphat Boit were also among the runners who finished in the top 10.

The race did not open up until the final phases. With less than four kilometres remaining to the end of the highly contested race, Asmare took the driving seat as a group of about 15 road race runners ran close to him. 

Getachew waited until the final kilometer of the race before breaking away to finish the race in a personal best time.

In the women's category, Ethiopians dominated the field with Almaz Ayana who was making her debut leading her compatriots to a cleen podium sweep.

Ayana was in a different class as she obliterated the field to cross the finishing line in a course record time of 2:17.20, forty five seconds faster than the runner-up.

The reigning 1,500m world record holder Genzebe Dibaba and Tsehay Gemechu clocked 2:18.05 and 2:18.59 to settled for a second and third-place positions respectively.

Celestine Chepchirchir, the only Kenyan woman who appeared in the top 10 positions registered a 7th place finish.
