FKF Premier League side Mathare United have appointed Frank Ouna as its new head coach. The former Wazito and Gor Mahia tactician replaces Salim Ali who was fired on Monday following a string of poor results that have condemned the 2008 champions to last in the league charts.

Ouna’s major responsibility is to ensure the team survives the chop with the league halfway done. A draw against Vihiga United on Saturday condemned them to 17th spot and Furo knows the task ahead is tough.

“I understand the task at hand and the only way to set things straight is to put points on the board. That is why I have been given the job.

“I know we can do it and improve on our situation because everything is already there in place. The players at my disposal are more than capable of turning things around and there is still so much to play for.”

The 44-year-old has wealth of top flight experience having been involved in the technical benches of Premier League title winning sides Gor Mahia and Sofapaka FC. He has also served as an assistant for the national team Harambee Stars.

“I want to first of all thank the club’s hierarchy in placing confidence in me with this appointment. Mathare is a historical club and I am humbled to be here.
