
Athletics Kenya (AK) has announced a number of requirements and selection criteria for the 2023 World Cross Country Championships trials slated for Saturday, December 10, 2022.
This is according to a statement released by the Executive Committee Member and Youth Development Director at AK, Barnabas Korir, on Wednesday, December 7.
The statement indicated that athletes looking to qualify for the trials must have taken part in one or more of the Kenya Cross Country Series held recently and finished among the top 12 runners.

AK further added that only invited athletes will be allowed to grace the trials scheduled to be held at the Kenya Prisons Training College in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The other requirements include a valid Covid-19 vaccination certificate and travel documents.
“All athletes invited for trials must come with their electronic passports and a covid-19 vaccination certificate.
“All U20 athletes should have been born between the years 2004 and 2007,” part of the statement from AK read.
The national body also disclosed that successful runners will be accommodated in Nairobi.
“Selected athletes, (Team Kenya) will be accommodated for one night on December 10, for visa application and documentation,” AK added.
In addition, the Jackson Tuwei-led federation released the selection guidelines for the event.
“For 6km U20 women, 8km U20 men, and 10km senior men and women, the first six athletes to cross the finishing line will be automatically selected. The 7th and 8th athletes will be selected as reserves.
“The 2km senior men and women events will be used to select the mixed relay team. The first 3 athletes to cross the finish line for both will be automatically selected. The 4th and 5th athletes will be selected as reserves,” the statement ended.
Bathurst will host the 44th edition of the World Cross Country Championship on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
It will be the second time Australia will be hosting the event.
