Harambee Starlets forward Esse Akida on Monday night, December 12, was feted with the Golden Boot in the Greece Women’s top-flight league, Panelinio Protathlima.
Akida was the 2021/2022 Greek Division A top scorer with the PAOK women's soccer team where she bagged 18 goals.
The Kenyan footballer, upon winning, appreciated the people of Greece for recognizing her stellar performance.

"I would want to thank my teammates for making this happen. Without them, I would not have been the top scorer last season. Through their efforts and teamwork, they helped me achieve this and it would be very unfair not to recognize their contribution to this award,” Akida stated.
Akida dedicated her award to her family back in Kenya asking for their prayers to collect more awards in the coming years.
“To aspiring women footballers back at home, yesternight proved that no one can dim your light when you are dedicated to what you do. Keep grinding, keep working on your craft, and keep believing because one day you will win too,” Akida added.
PAOK’s 30-year-old forward also lauded her coaches and the team’s technical bench for encouraging her and using the right tactics to enable the team to win matches.
She noted that PAOK fans have had a huge contribution not only to her success but also to the entire team at large.
“I want to thank the fans of PAOK and everyone back at home who supports our team. They motivate us to do good each day and it would be unfair not to recognize their contribution in rooting for us all through the season,” Akida noted.
Akid joined the Greek side in July 2021, when she signed a one-and-a-half-year deal before she extended her contract further in July 2022.
