Over the years, getting to the past history and profiles of top Sportsmen and women has been an uphill task. We always rely on hearsay and half baked facts from people who might have not even seen the great people but heard stories on Radio or read the stories in Newspapers.
Kenya’s premier radio station Radio Taifa will on Saturday start airing a show on former top sportsmen and women. The show called Bingwa Wetu will be hosted by experienced journalist John Nene from 6:45pm.

Nene, who has vast knowledge in most sports disciplines, narrates how influential the former sportsmen and women were in the society and how they influenced the growth of sports in the country.
“This is a new show starting kesho at KBC Radio Taifa on former top sportsmen and women. My reason for starting the programme is to honour these great sons and daughters of Kenya for doing the country proud in various international competitions. I've also realised my fellow sports journalists rarely talk about them,” he says.
“ My show will help the new journalists to know more about them. This is also to remind the government not to forget our heroes and heroines, they deserve to be rewarded in accordance to what they achieved.”
“ I'm kicking off my show with the great Joe Kadenge, whom I've also done his biography. I'll feature three to four series on the late Kadenge. I'm starting with sportsmen who shone in the 50s and 60s such as Nyandika Maiyoro, Joe Kadenge, Wilson Kiprugut Chumo, Kipchoge Keino, Lydia Steven's Okech, Philip Waruinge, Sammy Mbogwa, Tecla Chemabwai, Micky Ragos to mention by a few. It will be on air every Saturday at 6.45pm on KBC Radio Taifa.”
Nene who was recently appointed as the Director of Public Relations and Communication for the World Africa Boxing Association (WABA) says the country has a rich history in Sports but the public just know a fraction of it, something he says will change after the long awaited series.

“It is the first program of its kind and it will be fireworks,” he tells TeamKenya.
Nene has spent most of his time training sportsmen and women on media relations and also writing biographies of famous sports personalities. With vast knowledge in Radio production and execution, the former BBC man says he will use this platform to change the sports narrative.
