Arsenal Charged for Players Misconduct

Arsenal is under fire for the teams' reaction towards centre referee Andy Madley during the Premier League march with Newcastle United on January 3.

Football Association (FA) on Friday, January 6, responded to the occasion that transpired at the end of the match, issuing a statement, charging Arsenal.

The Gunners players are accused of being disorderly towards the end of their 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

"Arsenal has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following its Premier League match against Newcastle United FC on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

"It’s alleged that Arsenal FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 95th minute, and the club has until Tuesday, January 10, 2023, to respond," the statement read.

Arsenal players at the 95 minute swarmed around the referee after he failed to award a penalty for handball after Granit Xhaka's cross had struck the arm of Jacob Murphy.

The match was littered with contested decisions resulting in Arsenal players and Mikel Arteta complaining of being denied two penalties.

After the match, Arteta was questioned over the incidents noting that the team was denied two penalties.

Arsenal top the Premier League table with 44 points, five points ahead of defending champions Manchester City.

Gunners play next against Oxford United on Monday, January 9, for the FA Cup third round.
