Alvez has been under investigation over an allegation that he sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona in December 2022.

However, the former Barcelona fullback denied any wrongdoing. Currently playing for Mexico side UNAM Pumas, Alves was in Spain to face the charges.

It is reported that he presented himself at a local police station in Barcelona on Friday, January 20, before being taken to the Ciutat de la Justicia by officers pending examination from the judge.

Alvez was reported to the police by a woman on January 2, accusing him of inappropriately touching her at a nightclub in Barcelona.

During an interview with the Spanish television channel, Antena 3, earlier in January 2023, the defender denied the accusations.

"I would like to deny everything, first, I was there, in that location, with more people, having a good time. Everybody knows that I love to dance. Having a good time, but without invading the space of others

"I'm very sorry, but I don't know who that young lady is, I don't know who she is, I've never seen her in my life," Alves stated.
