Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Gor Mahia sent a letter to Raila Odinga requesting the postponement of the Kamkunji rally.

In a letter signed by the club's Secretary General, Samuel Ocholla dated Thursday, January 26, Raila was given two options for his rally.

Raila had announced that he would be holding a consultative meeting at Kamkunji grounds on Sunday, January 29.

On the same day, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopard will be playing the famous Mahemeji Derby at the Nyayo Stadium.

K’Ogalo also took the opportunity to officially invite the Azimio party leader to grace the occasion.

“We also appeal to you to consider either rescheduling the demo or having it in good time to enable the supporters of both clubs to make their way to the stadium in time for the derby,” part of the statement read.

Aside from politics, Raila is also the patron to the 19-time Kenya Premier League champion.

The Mashemeji Derby is one of the fiercest football rivalries in Kenya between two of the country’s oldest clubs.

Ingwa and K'Ogalo are Kenya’s most successful clubs sharing 30 league titles between them.

Currently, AFC Leopards rank 7th, while Gor Mahia holds the 3rd position.
