
Kenya Lionesses won in the opening match at FIBA Africa Zone Five Women’s AfroBasket qualifiers against hosts Uganda Gazelles on Tuesday, February 14.
Kenya is looking to defend its title having won the 2021 edition of the Zone Five qualifiers.
The side coached by George Mayienga emerged victorious with a scoreline of 53-61.

Lionesses get a rest day on Wednesday, February 15, before playing Rwanda on Thursday, February 16.
Also on the list of fixtures is a match against South Sudan on Friday, February 17, and Egypt on Sunday, February 19.
Kenya will look to make a third consecutive appearance at the Women’s Afrobasket after finishing ninth in the last tournament.
The qualifiers are taking place in Uganda having started on Tuesday, February 14, with its conclusion on Sunday, February 19.
Teams participating in the tournament include hosts Uganda, South Sudan and Rwanda.
If Kenya wins the Zone 5 qualifiers it will join Nigeria, Cartoon Senegal and Mali who have already qualified for the AfroBasket tournament.
The four are qualifiers from the 2021 Women's African Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.
