Young Kenyan Making Big Waves in England

Clarke Oduor

On Wednesday, 14th July, Kenyan international Clarke Oduor came on as a second-half sub for championship side Barnsley that saw the win 2-1 against a formidable Rochdale side at the Crown Oil Arena. Oduor finally got game time after new head coach Markus Schoop brought him on and surprisingly had the young sensation switch positions to play more up field.

Clarke is predominantly a left wing full back or midfielder but during the Rochdale clash, the promising Kenyan had an impressive performance getting more touches in and around the half yard box. The midfielder endured a disappointing 2020/21 season under former coach Valerien Ismael who left Barnsley for current relegated side Westbrom.

Oduor is famously known for saving Barnsley from going down the relegation path in July 2020. During that iconic match between Barnsley and Brentford, Clarke came out from the bench and scored a winner during the dying seconds in a game that was deadlocked at 1-1 a piece.

The youngster who was born in Kenya but grew up in England began his football career at Leeds United's academy making his pro debut on January 6th 2019 against a Queens Park Rangers side that proved to be the better team. The youngster also made his debut with Harambee Stars during an international friendly against Zambia on October 9th, 2020.
