The World Athletics Under-20 Championships was halted for close to one hour on Thursday, August 19, following heavy rains at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Organizers of the under-20 championships had to rescheduled men's Pole Vault to Friday, August 19 at 10:05 am, and Discus Throw on the same day at 11:05 am.

The day started with light showers; however, it gradually increased to heavy rainfall that forced the organizers to bring the games to a standstill.

Today's races lined up are the men’s 5000m finals, women’s 3000m, men's 1500m, women’s javelin and men’s pole vault.

The 100m men and women’s finales were set to wind up the day's competitions.

Earlier today, Sheila Chepkosgei was disqualified for lane infringement while Brenda Chebet, who led at the bell in 1:00.93, tailed behind in the last 200m of the race making her finish last in 2:12.16.

This meant that Kenya would not have any representation in the women’s 800m semi-finals.

During day one of the competitions, Kenya’s 4x400m mixed relay team was also disqualified for lane infringement.

On the bright side, Kenya’s Peter Kithome and Alocias Kipngetich managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the men’s 400m hurdles that will take place on day 4, August 21 at 3 pm.

Kithome took the lead with 200m to go, but ran out of gas near the finish line, making him lose to Denis Novoseltsey, who clocked 50.54.

The world Athletic Organizers have also announced that the new  detailed timetable will be distributed in due time in the media centre.
