
FIFA through their President, Gianni Infantino emphasized how the English Premier League and Spain’s LaLiga should release players for World Cup qualifiers next month to 'preserve and protect sporting integrity'. The Statement comes after the subsequent leagues stated that players who travelled to red-list (Cocid-19 Hotspots) countries would have to follow coronavirus quarantine regulations upon their return, ruling them out of several of their club’s matches.
Clubs like Liverpool have vowed not to Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Alisson Becker for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. “Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month,” the Premier League said in a statement on their website.
Infantino has asked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for quarantine exemptions for international players so that they could be released by their clubs in England for the international duties. Infantino insisted on Wednesday that the release of players in the upcoming international windows is a matter of great urgency and importance.
"I am calling on a show of solidarity from every member association, every league, and every club, to do what is both right and fair for the global game. Many of the best players in the world compete in leagues in England and Spain, and we believe these countries also share the responsibility to preserve and protect the sporting integrity of competitions around the world," read a statement on FIFA official website
