Allan Wanga of Kakamega Homeboyz has officially retired from professional football.
The latest development was confirmed by his team manager Boniface Imbenzi who said the former Kenya International is keen on pursuing other matters.
“There are those who are retiring like our veteran player Allan Wanga who early in the season indicated to us that immediately the season comes to an end he will quit active football.
Now that the season has ended, I think he will now be venturing into other matters but inside football although in other levels,” Imbenzi said.
The striker will now put his focus on serving the Kakamega County government as the Sports Officer after his appointment by the County Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya in January 2018.
The prolific striker had earlier announced his retirement once the 2020/21 FKF-PL season was over. He also retired from international football in June 2019 where he represented Kenya under Harambee Stars for 12 years.
In a message to his fans, the Homeboyz captain stated that he has achieved most of the things he wanted both locally and internationally.
“I have achieved what any footballer would desire to achieve in his career. I have also done my best in the last 13 years or more in top flight football, and I think it’s time for me to leave the scene for the young generation to take over,” stated Wanga.
His former teammates had also paid tribute to him with the likes of Charles Okwemba who attributed the AFC Leopards revival to the prolific striker.
“Allan made a huge contribution towards the revival of the current AFC Leopards. In 2013 he was in the frontline in ensuring that we won the GoTV Shield trophy that enabled us to taste a piece of continental football in 2014,” stated Okwemba.
Homeboyz finished sixth on 46 points in the FKF Premier League 2020-2021 season after coming from behind to stun AFC Leopards 3-2 on the final day.
