Manchester City Fullback Benjamin Mendy was denied bail on Wednesday 1st September and still remains in custody. His trial is actually set for September 10th after being charged with 4 accounts of rape and 1 sexual assault.
The alleged attacks took place in October 2020 with a fourth case happening recently just last week. The 27 year old French World Cup winner was also charged with a bail offence but this was withdrawn by District Judge Jack McGarva at the footballer's Magistrates' Court appearance on August 27.
Behind a closed-doors hearing at Chester Crown Court today (September 1), the France international was refused bail by His Honour Judge Steven Everett. Mendy has been in custody at a prison in Liverpool, northwest England, since last Friday. Mendy has not yet formally entered a plea, according to reports, but his lawyer said that the player has denied the allegations. He also did not turn up for the bail hearing on Wednesday and is slated to appear at Chester Crown Court on Sept. 10.
The French international signed for City from Monaco in 2017 for 52 million pounds ($71.68 million) and has won three Premier League titles during his time in Manchester.
