Immediate former Harambee Stars Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has spoken for the first time since his shock resignation as the national team coach.

The 53-year-old tactician has said that he wants to focus on family matters and will not be taking any coaching role soon.
Speaking on a popular radio show ‘Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi’ which he co-hosts, the experienced tactician who was in his 5th stint as the national team coach revealed that his brother’s health problems was  one of the main reasons he was quitting the role he took 11 months ago, overseeing eight matches.
Ghost who succeeded Francis Kimanzi in October 2020 was in charge of Harambee Stars for 11 months in which they played a total of eight international matches. The Harambee Stars won four of the matches, drew three and lost one fixture.
"I have been going through a tough time. I was in India for two months with my brother, who is ailing. After returning from India, a lot of things changed personally," Mulee said.
"I had plans for the team but I thought I would be doing the country a disservice if I remained as the head coach yet I have personal issues affecting me."
"We were just about to start the World Cup qualifying games and in that situation, it is very difficult for a coach to resign.
"After the draws against Rwanda and Uganda, I sat down with the FKF and we all saw it fit that I hand over to someone else,” he added.
After a long meeting with the federation, the former Tusker and APR coach said that he took the decision in good faith to focus on other matters, arguing that the team which has an average age of 23.5 years will be one to watch in the future.
“I thought that might not be doing a good job for Kenya if I am still on the seat, i will not be giving Harambee Stars 100% so for the betterment of the team let me step aside,” he concluded.
Mulee's last assignments as Harambee Stars boss were the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Rwanda. They collected two points from a 0-0 home draw against the Cranes before a 1-1 draw against Amavubi in Kigali on September 2 and 5, respectively.
