The Kenyan women basketball team, Lioness were stopped in their tracks from proceeding any further in the AfroBasket Tournament after a painful loss to Mozambique in the Quarter finals. The game ended 72-50, Mozambique proving to be too clinical for the Kenyan ladies especially once the game's intensity went a notch higher.
Mozambique was always going to be a tough proposition for Kenya who trailed 24-12 in the opening quarter, were down 41-23 at the break and did not recover. In the third quarter the winners finished strong as they topped 57-33 to seal the win in the last stanza. The Lionesses connected for only 15 of their 52 shots taken and hit 5 of their three points attempts. They were better from the charity stripe making 5 of 11.
Melissa Otieno was the only Lionesses who posted double digit scores, registering 10 points. Victoria Reynolds shot 9 points and Natali Mwangale who was doubtful, shook off her injury to register another 8 points. Red hot Ingrid Macauro led all scorers as she sank a game high 21 points for the winners while captain Odelia Mafanela added another 12. The winning team's from this phase will move to the quarters where they will find host Cameroon, Champions Nigeria, Senegal and Mali waiting.
