Hockey Star Gilly Okumu has earned a call up to the National Women Football team Harambee Starlets ahead of their friendly against  Copper Queens Zambia in an international friendly later this month.

The multi talented Okumu juggles between hockey and football and has showcased dedication to both crafts. The hockey star also leads Strathmore Scorpions hockey as captain.

Okumu has also earned call ups and featured in the Kenyan hockey women's side as she led the team to beat Uganda 22-0 on aggregate two weeks ago.

Apart from Strathmore the star forward played hockey in the German league where she featured for Eintracht Frankfurt. As she plays in both sports, Gilly Okumu follows in the footsteps of fellow international Pauline Naise who plays both hockey and football for Amira Sailors and Vihiga Leeds who play in the FKF Division One League Zone `B'.

The Strathmore Scorpions midfielder earned her call up to the Harambee Starlets football team as she featured for Mathare United who play in the FKF Division one league Zone `A'.

She first started playing football back in high school for Sinyolo Girls before becoming a hockey player. She again turned back to football back in january where she opted to maintain her fitness. After an impressive performance at Mathare united in a couple of fixtures she straight away was called to feature for the national team as a forward.

The hockey star landed her call up alongside her Mathare United teammates goalkeepers Valentine Kwaka and Lorraine Adhiambo.

The Harambee Starlets yesterday received Covid 19 vaccinations as they look forward to clashing Zambia in an international friendly.
