The Football Kenya Federation head Nick Mwendwa is under pressure owing to the national team's struggles with former Inter Milan star Macdonald Mariga asking for his resignation.

On October 11, Nick Mwendwa in an interview on NTV stated that Kenya ‘lacked quality footballers’  that not even AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho or Arsenal's Mikel Arteta could succeed with the current Harambee Stars team.

His remarks have sparked different reactions from different Kenyan football enthusiasts.

Former Harambee Stars midfielder Macdonald Mariga has come out to condemn Nick Mwendwa’s approach.

“I am appalled by FKF President Nick Mwenda's sentiments made on live Tv that Kenya has no talented football players to compete with other nations” Mariga stated.

Mariga noted that the statement by the federation head was insulting and disrespectful to the current, former and all upcoming footballers in the country.

He added that Kenyan footballers have continuously suffered while playing under the current regime of Nick Mwendwa.

The former Kenyan midfielder mentioned that the players did not deserve such treatment after all their dedication to the country.

“The players have shown immense pride and patriotism to represent the Kenyan flag in various international assignments and this is what they get in return” Mariga noted.

Mariga also noted that there has been no significant growth seen in the Kenyan football since Mwendwa took charge of the federation.

“For 7 years under his leadership, Football in Kenya has gone backwards and no progress whatsoever” Mariga alluded.

The outspoken midfielder is calling for the FKF president to issue an apology adding that he should resign as the FKF boss.

Mariga, who is Victor Wanyama's elder brother, last played for Real Oviedo in Spain from 2017 to 2018 before hanging his boots.
