The East African derby between Uganda and Kenya on Thursday, November 11, ended in a 1-1 draw.

As was the case on October 8,2011, the Cranes needed a win to advance to the next phase but on a day Kenyan football received mix set up of events, Engin Firat's charges avoided defeat at enemy territory.

The group E World Cup Qualification match which took place at the St Mary's Stadium Kitende, Uganda ended in a controversial way as Kenya's goalkeeper Bwire was put on the spotlight for a howler he will not forget anytime soon.

Harambee Stars took the lead through a Michael Olunga goal but a mistake by Brian Bwire cost the Stars an unexpected three points at the Saint Mary's Kitende stadium.

Aziizi Fahad Bayo took advantage of the slip by the young Kenyan keeper to tap home the unlikely equalizer.
The match which began at a slow pace in the first half ended in a goalless draw as both teams lacked brilliance in the final third.

Stars in the first ten minutes pushed for a goal but their quest to find their top striker Olunga proved difficult as the Cranes defenders did a good job in blocking the pass.

Going into the second half Uganda Cranes made two changes replacing  Abdul-Aziizi Kayondo and Steven Desse Mukwala, replacing them with Ibrahim Orit and Milton Karisa respectively.

Ibrahim Orit at the 47 minute almost gave the Cranes a lead as his effort on goal was slightly off target.

In the first ten minutes of the second half Uganda's substitutions brought an increased pace to  the team as they gave pressure to Kenya.

After the ten Minutes Kenya settled in and started dangerous attacks toward the Ugandans as they survived a couple of dangerously swung-in corner kicks from Kenya.

The dangerous attacks from Kenya proved a menace to the Cranes as the Stars captain Michael OLunga headed a goal to put his team ahead.

After the goal the Kenyan side took to the bench and introduced fresh legs by replacing Anthony Wambuni Stieno with Tera Luheni Alwyn.

Uganda in a push to look for an equalizer brought in Yunus Sentamu who replaced Moses Waiswa in what was their third change.

Kenya defended well forcing a fourth substitution by their neighbors who brought in Allan Okello for Bobosi Byaruhanga.

At the closing moments of the game Uganda Cranes pushed more numbers up-front forcing a 89 minute mistake by Brian Bwire as Ugandas striker Aziizi Bayo forced the Kenyan keeper into a handling error.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw as the Kenyan players together with their coach took it to the referee claiming that the goal was as a result of a foul at the goalkeeper.

The draw means that Uganda's dream of going to Qatar for the World Cup was all but over.
