Zimbabwe on Tuesday, November 16, through the Sports and Recreation Commission suspended the board of the football association (ZIFA).

The announcement was made by the commission who noted that they would provide more details later. This came as Zimbabwe finished bottom of their World Cup qualifying group, failing to win a match.

The move will certainly attract FIFA's attention, which could attract the threat of a ban from the governing body of world football, as it protects its member Football Associations from government interference.

Zimbabwe were held 1-1 by Ethiopia in their last World Cup qualifier at home in Harare on Sunday after following a late equalizer.

During the World Cup qualifiers period, they sacked their Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic, while on Monday their captain Khama Billiat unexpectedly retired from international football.

In Zimbabwe the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC)is a statutory body whose mandate is to regulate and develop sport and recreation in Zimbabwe.

This comes days after Kenya's Ministry of Sports disbanded the Football Kenya Federation and appointed a caretaker committee that would run the affairs of the federation for six months.

FIFA on the other hand threatened to ban Kenya from participating in its activities if the decision to disband Football Kenya Federation is not reversed.

In a statement on Thursday, Chief Member Associations Officer Kenny Jean-Marie said CS Amina Mohamed’s decision was against FIFA rules.

“We kindly ask you to inform the Cabinet Secretary that in the event her decision to appoint a FKF Caretaker Committee and correlated secretariat was to be upheld, we would have no other choice than to submit the present matter to the Bureau of FIFA Council for consideration and decision,” Marie noted.

FIFA noted its readiness to hold a meeting with FKF and the Ministry of Sports to address any concerns.
