Mumbua Registers Resounding Victory in Athletics Kenya Track and Field Meet

On Saturday, February 5, Agnes Mumbua from Machakos County emerged victorious in the 10,000 metres women's race as the First Athletics Kenya Track and Field Meeting came to an end at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.  

The 27-year-old led the race from the start, clocking a time of 33 minutes and 17.18 seconds, with Emily Chebet finishing second with a time of 33:55.52. Dorothy Kipkikach from the Kenya Defence Force clocked 33:57.29 to finish in third place.

“It’s such a nice feeling to eventually win at Athletics Kenya meetings. I suppose a change of training has been the key to success. 

“My dream now is to represent Kenya at any championship event in the near future," an elated Mumbua stated.

Mumbua has now set her sight on either Africa Senior Crowns scheduled for June or the Commonwealth Games planned for July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

National 400m champion, Mary Moraa from the Kenya Police Service, emerged victorious in the women’s 400m race as Stanley Kieti won the men’s race. 

Moraa, who is set to start taking part in the 800m race clocked a time of 53.41 seconds in the 400 metres women's race, beating Linda Kagweha who came second with a time of 54.73 seconds, as Mercy Adija from Kenya Prisons Service came in third in 55.18 seconds. 

In the 400 metre men's race, Kieti emerged victorious clocking a time of  47.6 seconds, edging out William Ryan who finished second with a time of 47.21 seconds as Elkana Kiprotich came third in 47.59 seconds.  

Africa race walk titleholders Samuel Gathimba from Kenya Prisons Service and Kenya Defence Forces' Emily Ngii lived up to their titles in the men and women’s 20km race walk. 

Gathimba timed 1 hour 26 minutes and 3 seconds to claim the men's 20 km race walk. Ngii was in the women's walk to take the victory, clocking a time of 1 hour 43 minutes and 6 seconds.
