
Kenya will host the East Africa Safari Classic Rally set to take place between February 10 to February 18.
The nine-day rally will start from Nakuru County with about 50 crew set to cover over 5,000 kilometres across 11 counties.
One of the big names in this edition is American professional rally driver Ken Block who has an estimated net worth of Ksh22 billion ($200 million).
Block together with his Italian co-driver Alex Gelsomino have won the Safari Classic four times and will be driving Tuthill Porsche.
The 1984 Porsche 911 car is a unique motor vehicle as there are only 19 similar cars worldwide.
The American has been involved in various races including the World Rally Championship and the World Rallycross Championship. He is also multiple runner-ups in the American Rally Championship, a runner-up in the Global Rallycross Championship and has five X-Games medals.
Block is also a popular figure on social media thanks to his popular YouTube series called Gymkhana. His stunt videos where he performs complicated courses have garnered a huge number of views and followers.
The sports legend is the founder of Hoonigan Industries, a lifestyle brand for auto fanatics and in 2010 he formed Hoonigan Racing Division, his own rally team.
Block, who has experience with Subaru and Ford rallying, is expected to easily navigate the Porsche 911 through the rough terrain despite the classic being known as the world’s toughest rally
This will also help the tourism and hospitality sector as the global coverage during the event will enable showcase Kenya’s destination among travellers.
Last year after a 19 years hiatus, Kenya welcomed back the World Rally Championship (WRC) and secured a five-year deal to host the event until 2026.
