CS Amina Appoints Mike Okinyi to Steering Committee Ahead of Global Event

Citizen TV sports journalist Mike Okinyi has been appointed to the Steering Committee for Birmingham the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games.

In a Gazette Notice, released on Friday, March 25, Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed appointed Okinyi and other professionals from different sectors to oversee the preparation of the international and continental games. 

The committee was also tasked with reviewing and approving work plans, budgets and any other relevant proposals made by the Central Management Committee.

Further, the steering committee will be in charge of approving the final list of athletes and officials that will participate in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom, as well as the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games in Egypt. 

It will also provide overall oversight on the activities of the athletes and officials that are to participate in the two games. 

Celebrated athlete Humphrey Kayange who is the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary, of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games was named in the Central Management Committee.

His committee was mandated with overseeing the conduct of trials to verify the qualification of the athletes that are to participate in the Commonwealth games as well as the Cairo 2022 Africa Youth Games.

It will also consult with the respective federations of athletes to select the teams of the athletes that are to participate in both games.

The Central Management Committee will also prepare work plans, budgets and any other proposals for consideration by the Steering Committee.

It will also coordinate with the event organizers on all the activities of the athletes and officials that are to participate in the Commonwealth games and the Cairo Africa Youth Games.

The committee will as well as prepare a final report on the fulfilment of the mandate of the Committee and perform any other duty that may be assigned to it by the Steering Committee.
