The Zambian husband and wife crew of Leroy and Urshlla Gomes are aiming to break records as they take part in the second round of the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC) in Naivasha.

Leroy and Urshlla are enjoying some top form after clinching the season-opening Rallye Bandama of Ivory Coast in February.

The two are seeking to finish the Kenyan leg of the continental series on a high despite having never won a rally on Kenyan soil.

In a press interview, the couple pointed out that racing in the Kenyan terrains is challenging to the driver, the navigators and also the car.

Leroy who is one of the fastest drivers in Africa at the moment added that as a team they are targeting to finish the championship as they continue picking more points.

He was quick to acknowledge the fact that in the recent past it has been a challenge for any foreigner to win in Kenya despite some top names missing from the event.

The Gomes couple will be participating in the championship driving their Ford Fiesta-Rally 2 car.

If they win, the two will set a new record by becoming the first husband and wife crew to do so in the event.

Among the favourites to win the event is Kenyan Karan Patel, who is currently leading the Kenyan Championship.

This season's rules are slightly different with a number of new technical rules with only the fastest five drivers from the Qualifying Stage taking part in the selection of starting positions for the opening leg of an event unlike the past which was 15 drivers.
