Kenyan international Victor Wanyama on Saturday, May 1, captained CF Montreal for the first time as the Canadian side pegged reigning champions Columbus Crew 0-0 -  a Major League Soccer (Eastern Conference) stalemate fixture.

26 year old Canadian Piette, was handed the armband duties after the departure of Jukka Raitala, who joined Minnesota United at the end of last season, while Wanyama and Canadian Kamal Miller were named the vice captains of the club.

The Canadian side dominated Saturday's Eastern Conference fixture after registering 20 shots against Columbus Crew's three, but were unable to break the deadlock.

The club acquired the 29 year old Kenyan Midfielder on a free transfer from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on March 3, 2020, and the Canadian side was not just convinced about his style of play but his leadership skills as well.

Wanyama's first time to show his leadership skills as the club's captain came on Saturday against Columbus Crew, though it was not a new thing to him as he has served the captaincy role while on national duty in many occasions, including when Harambee Stars dropped five points against Comoros to exit the qualifying race for 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

The solid midfielder also took the armband role for his former English club Southampton in a League Cup match against Aston Villa back in 2015.

CF Montreal currently sits at  position four in the 14-team Eastern Conference league with five points.

Montreal's next league fixture  is expected to be on away turf against fellow Canada and Eastern Conference compatriots Vancouver Whitecaps on May 8 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
