Manchester United could be deducted points as Premier League and FA rules contradict one another on postponements.
The Red Devils were set to take on Liverpool this Sunday at 6:30 PM but it was postponed after shocking scenes at Old Trafford.
Over 200 fans stormed the ground as more supporters demonstrated outside, with violence erupting in portions.
The Premier League have meanwhile launched investigations into Sunday's incident and it has been reported that the Manchester United security might have had a hand in letting in the protestors.
According to the FA's rulebook in section 8.3.4, it states that United could be found to have been at fault for the match not going ahead and see Liverpool awarded three points.
"In the event of a match being abandoned due to the conduct of one Club or its members or supporters the Board has the power to order that the match is not replayed and to award either one or three points to the Club not at fault.
"It cannot levy a financial penalty due to the conduct of a Club."
Both clubs had agreed to have the match postponed meaning that a compromise might be reached.
But what happens if Manchester United are deducted points?
The race for the top four has been quite interesting and Liverpool being awarded points means that they will have closed the gap with fourth placed Chelsea to four points and one behind West Ham who beat Burnley 2-1 on Monday night.

Points deduction could also hand Manchester City the league title and officially changing the ribbons to sky blue.
Meanwhile, Manchester United Kenya fans also took to the streets in solidarity with their counterparts at Old Trafford. The protest took place in Bungoma over the weekend and the fans carried banners displaying displeasure with the current regime.
