Gor Mahia has postponed its game against Talanta FC which was slated for Sunday, May 15, at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega

In a statement dated Saturday, May 14, the club cited a leadership vacuum at the Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) as the main reason for the cancellation.

Additionally, Gor Mahia confirmed writing to the Sports Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Amina Mohamed, declining to play the match at the venue located 200 kilometers from Nairobi.

“On account of the football leadership vacuum consequent upon the expiry of the term of the FKF Caretaker Committee, we wrote to Sports Cabinet Secretary to advise her that we would not honor the match,” stated Gor in the statement.

"Besides, we indicated our lack of acceptance of the venue which is 200kms away from Nairobi and is not one of the designated Talanta FC home grounds.”

Bandari FC also made a similar announcement, refusing to honour a May 14 fixture against AFC Leopards.

“We would like to announce to our fans and followers that our team will not play our away game with AFC Leopards slated for 14 May 2022,” announced Bandari.

“We will inform you if or when our league matches resume.”

The FKF Caretaker Committee recently submitted its report to CS Amina after the six months probe recommending a litany of changes at FKF.

On May 13, CS Amina, announced a 12-member FKF Transition Committee to manage the affairs of football in the country for the next five weeks.

At the same time, Mathare United has been relegated from FKF premier league after forfeiting three league fixtures.

“We, therefore, hereby write to you decreeing that having failed to play 3 fixtures in a season in contravention to the above rule as of the date of today’s letter, Mathare United FC has been suspended from the FKF Premier league 2021/22 season and shall be relegated to the National Super League for the next season,” wrote the FKF Transition Committee Secretariat led by Lindah Oguttu, citing the FKF Riot Act.
