Timothy Weah, the son of Liberian President and former AC Milan striker, George Weah, will play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The forward is determined to make his father proud by seeking to maintain his father's football glory of being the 1994–95 UEFA Champions League top scorer.

Timothy 22, will play for the United States national team as a forward, a position which he plays for French Ligue1 side Lille.

US coach, Gregg Berhalter, has played an instrumental role in Timothy Weah's football career and the World Cup has been Tim's lifelong dream.

In his long and successful football career, George Weah did not feature in the World Cup.

“Something that’s been on my mind since I was a kid was qualifying for a World Cup, and it’s finally here.”

“Obviously, my dad never got the chance to play in a World Cup, which is very unfortunate. But, you know, he has a chance to live that dream through me," the New York-born youngster told AFP.

His desire to play in the world cup came after he attended the 2010 World Cup final with his dad in South Africa.

“My dad took a vacation in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup as he was working for FIFA at that time. So I had the chance to be at the games," Timothy recalls the life-changing experience.

His dad retired from football in 2003 to venture into politics and became a Senator and later the 25th Liberian President in 2018.

Timothy was a Ligue 1 title winner with Lille in 2021 before an intense season that saw his side finish 10th behind his dad's former team Paris St. Germain.

With the World Cup preparations in top gear, only time will tell if the young Weah will fit into his father's shoes.

Meanwhile, Tim is happy for his friend Kylian Mbappe after his PSG contract extension.

"Kylian is a great player and I have huge respect for him. He's one of my friends, I played with him. So seeing him get the glory and getting what he deserves is amazing," stated the American footballer.
