AFC Leopards Jaffari Odeny Owiti returned to training on Wednesday, July 27, after being out of action for a year due to an injury.

Jaffari had suffered a meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament tear in June 2021 which forced him to stay out of play for almost one year.

His return was announced by AFC Leopards through their social media.

“After successful surgery and rehabilitation; spending more than one year out of action, he has joined the team for preseason,

“Jaffari Odeny Owiti is back. He suffered a meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament tear in our FKF Cup quarter-final match against Tusker FC at Ruaraka Grounds on June 9, 2021,” the tweet read.

Jaffari was injured six months into his new contract with Ingwe. He had signed a new two-year contract which would see him stay until 2023.

The 23-year-old who joined AFC from FKF Premier League side Chemelil Sugar in 2017 is a former national U23 player.

AFC Leopards resumed their training sessions ahead of the new season as they look to improve their performance.

The anterior cruciate ligament tear is regarded as one of the most common knee injuries that affect athletes who participate in high-demand sports.

An athlete with the injury is mostly required to undergo surgery to regain the full function of the knee.

An ACL and meniscus surgery is estimated to take not more than two hours, with the patient usually requiring an overnight stay in the hospital.
