Australia 7s Womens Donates Kit to Madagascar in World Cup Games

The Australis Rugby 7s women's team donated their third kit to Madagascar women's team during the ongoing 2022 Rugby World Cup 7s. 

Madagascar Women's 7s team who are making their debut in the quadrennial tournament attended the event with only one kit. 

Australia and Madagascar played each other in the pre-round of 16 matches with the former winning 48-0.

A video shared on September 9, 2022, by Australia on their official Twitter Men's and Women's Rugby, showed Madagascar receiving the kits from their opponents. 

“Madagascar 7s could only take one kit with them to their inaugural #RWC7s due to self-funding, the same kit for both training and matches. 

“After seeing this, the Australia 7s women donated their alternate jersey to Madagascar to use as a training kit,” the Tweet read. 

Ahead of their match Madagascar's assistant coach, Zakasoa Ravelonanosy, told BBC Sports Africa that the team was excited to represent the nation in a World Cup. 

 "We are very, very excited. We are in a dream. The team has become idols for little girls," Zakasoa Ravelonanosy told BBC Sport Africa

Madagascar was able to qualify for the quadrennial tournament after finishing second behind host South Africa, in April 2022 at the Rugby Africa Sevens Championship in Tunisia. 

In Madagascar, rugby is a national sport with the capital Antananarivo having the world's highest number of rugby clubs within a city, at 161. 

The Women’s team head coach is a policeman, while the assistant is retired from the French Foreign Legion.
