
Western region representatives Koyonzo Secondary school overcame all the odds to clinch the prestigious rugby sevens title at the 2022 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) term two national games staged in Nakuru County.
Koyonzo thrashed their familiar opponents Butula secondary school 31-0 in a one-sided encounter played on Sunday evening.
The two sides also met during the Western region finals held a few weeks ago and Koyonzo had the last laugh hammering the Busia County-based learning institution 26-5.

In the third-place playoffs, Laikipia County representatives Nanyuki High School defeated Nduru Boys from Kisii 24-7.
Both Butula and Koyonzo have booked a ticket to represent the country at the upcoming Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) to be staged in Arusha, Tanzania between September 14 and September 24.
This is the first time for over a decade that a little-known school has won the national sevens title.
In the previous years, schools like Kakamega High School, Maseno, Nairobi School, St. Mary’s Yala and St. Peters Mumias dominated the discipline.
Most of the giants including Kakamega High, and Nairobi high school did not grace the national tournament.
In the Basketball Boys, minnows Dr. Aggrey High School deservedly advanced to the final after beating favorites Friends School Kamusinga 80-53 in the semifinal.
The Taita Taveta-based school will battle it out for the national crown with Nairobi region representatives Dagoretti High in the final to be played on the last day of the tournament.
