Three Kenyans Through to Finals at AFCB Boxing Championship

Three Kenyans booked their sport in the finals on day four of the AFCB Men's and Women's African Boxing Championships 2022. 

The Kenya trio of Nicholas Okoth, Samuel Njau, and Elizabeth Andiego boxed their way to the finals of the Africa Boxing competition. 

Samuel Njau defeated Zambia’s Ben Banda in the 57kg men's semifinals after the referee stopped the contest in round two of the bout.

“The fight was a bit complicated but I managed it because I listened to my corner carefully and they directed me well,” Njau stated after his match. 

In the finals of the men's 57kg, Njau will face off with Mozambique’s Armando Rugoberto Sigauque. 

Nicholas Okoth who was the first Kenyan to advance to the semis defeated Algeria’s Walid Trazout after the Algerian threw in the towel in round two after dislocating his shoulder. 

Okoth who is the team captain will face off with Zambia's Andrew Chilata in the men's 60kg finals. 

Kenya's deputy captain Elizabeth Andiego booked a spot in the finals after the referee stopped the contest. 

Andiego’s opponent Muriel Mkateko Sithole from South Africa hand was subjected twice to the referee’s standing counts in round one resulting in the match being stopped. 

In the finals of the women's 81kg+ bout, Andiego will face off with World silver medallist Khadija El-Mardi from Morocco.

In the 71kg, men's light middleweight bout Boniface Maina missed a chance of advancing to the finals after losing to Morocco's Hamza El Barbai.
