World marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei announced she would not be taking part in the London Marathon due to an injury.
Kosgei was set to run on Sunday, October 2, in London. She, however, withdrew due to a persistent hamstring injury.
She will now proceed with further treatment as she prepares for the 2023 campaign.

“I have been struggling over the past month with an issue in the hamstring of my right leg. My training has been up and down and not the way I would like to prepare to be in top condition for the 2022 TCS London Marathon.
The last race that Kosgei took part in was the Tokyo Marathon in March 2022, where she set the world’s leading time of 2:16:20.
Kosgei will miss the chance to improve on her performance after finishing fourth in the 2021 edition.
She will also miss a chance to replicate fellow Kenyan Eliud Kiochoge’s performance feat of breaking her own record.
Kosgei set the world record in the women's 42km race in the 2019 Chicago Marathon after clocking a time of 2:14:04.
Her withdrawal leaves Joyceline Jepkosgei, Mary Ngugi and Joan Chelimo as Kenya’s representatives in this year's edition of the women's race.
Joyceline will be the favourite to win the race after winning the 2021 edition.
