
Four-time African Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions Ghana are the least ranked team that will compete at the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar from Sunday, November 20 to December 18.
According to the latest rankings released on October 6, by the world governing body, the Black Stars are ranked number 61 behind Saudi Arabia(51) and hosts Qatar (50).
Senegal which is ranked number 18 in the world is the highest ranked in the continent.

In Africa, Ghana is ranked 11th behind the likes of Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali, Algeria and Ivory Coast who failed to qualify for this year’s edition.
Ghana qualified for the World Cup after narrowly edging out arch-rivals Nigeria on away goals rule. Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey scored Ghana’s only goal in their 1-1 aggregate draw.
In a recent friendly match played on September 23, the 2010 World Cup quarter finalists were beaten 3-0 by Brazil.
Tottenham Hotspur winger Richarlison de Andrade scored a brace for the Samba Boys with Marcos Aoás Corrêa popularly known as Marquinhos also hitting the back of the net.
In Qatar, Ghana have been pooled in a tough group alongside their nemesis Uruguay, Portugal and Korea Republic.
Brazil is the highest ranked team among the nations that will grace this year’s tournament followed by Belgium and the Lionel Messi-led Argentine side.
Reigning champions France are ranked 4th above the 2020 UEFA Euro finalists England.
The next international rankings will be released on December 22, two days after the World Cup final.
