World Cup Organisers Make U-Turn on Alcohol Sale

As the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 kick of day gets closer, the event organisers have made a U-turn on the sale of alcoholic drinks. 

According to FIFA, through a statement by one of the spokesperson's football fans will not be allowed to buy alcohol around World Cup stadiums. 

The quadrennial football tournament is set to kick start on Sunday, November 20, with hist nation Qatar taking on Ecuador at the Al Bayt Stadium.

“Following discussions between host country authorities and FIFA, a d decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar's FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters. 

“The tournament organisers appreciate AB InBev’s understanding and continued support to our joint commitment to cater for everyone during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022," FIFA’s statement read. 

FIFA’s statement added that the organisers would ensure that the stadiums and the surroundings provide an ideal experience for football fans. 

According to Sky News, the decision comes after a long-term discussion by the organisers to establish an environment that will be conducive for everyone. 

Earlier, there was an agreement where the sale of alcohol was to be available outside tournament venues and in fan zones. 

FIFA, however, assured supporters that alcohol will still be available in the country as the tournament continues.
