Premier League side Brighton announced that Enock Mwepu will make a return to the club in a different role after he announced his retirement.
In a statement dated Friday, December 30, the club announced that the Zambian will work as the under-9s coach in the clubs' academy, starting in 2023.
Brighton’s first-team head coach Roberto De Zerbi welcomed the move by the club to give Mwepu a role to play at Brighton.

“Considering his age, Enock has a wealth of experience. He has played in the Champions League and Premier League as well as captaining his country. This is the next chapter for Enock in his footballing career,” Roberto De Zerbi stated.
The club's Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber noted that the move was to help Mwepu move on to the next stage of his career.
Paul Barber noted that the club was delighted for Mwepu accepted the job despite having faced a difficult time following his diagnosis.
“Whenever we recruit a new member of staff, on or off the pitch, we want them to fit with our club values and Enock absolutely encapsulates those perfectly. We’re thrilled Enock will continue to be part of our club and believe Enock has a huge amount of potential as a coach. We want to give him the opportunity to flourish in this role,” Paul Barber noted.
Mwepu hanged his boots in October 2022 at the age of 24 after it was discovered he had a hereditary heart condition.
The 24-year-old played at Austrian club Salzburg making 81 league appearances over four years where he scored 11 goals and provided nine assists.
It was at Salzburg that Mwepu was able to feature in the Champions League before they were eliminated during the 2020/2021 season.
He joined Brighton in July 2021 going ahead to make 27 appearances and scoring only three goals.
